In October 1988, Villa Maria Apartments was established as an HM sponsored ministry. Offering 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments for independent senior living and open to adults 58 and over, these apartments are ideal for retirees and seniors seeking a quality of life nurturing the mind, body, and spirit, without the tasks of home ownership.

Apartment residents enjoy a game together.

The history of Villa Maria Apartments spans several years beginning at Chapter ’85 with an initial proposal for senior housing that was offered at the same time that the congregation was concerned with long range planning for better utilization of Villa Maria property and buildings. Following much input, and study that lead to various options, the sisters gave their support to the plan to attach a 37-suite apartment building to the west side of the existing Assumption Hall. A formal ground-breaking ceremony took place in 1987. The invitation to the October 1, 1988 dedication identified “Villa Maria Apartments for Independent Living.”

This sharing of their resources was the sisters’ way of extending quality of life to others. In 2003, space was converted for additional two-bedroom apartments, bringing the total number of units to 40.

Today, Villa Maria Apartments provides “a safe, secure, independent living environment for older adults in a Christian atmosphere that supports spiritual and personal growth. At The Villa, friendships, community, activities, hobbies, volunteerism, good nutrition, and exercise are encouraged to enhance a sense of well-being for each resident.”
