The Humility of Mary Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Team (HM-JPIC) works to help facilitate the efforts of the HM Community in fulfilling its mission of bringing more abundant life to God’s people, especially the poor, by responding to the needs of our times; and to serve as a resource for the leadership team, sisters, associates, and covenant companions in the areas of justice, peace and the integrity of creation by providing background and research for education, advocacy and action.

Based on the research from Everytown for Gun Safety, Ohio has the 21st highest rate of gun violence in the U.S. In an average year, 1,728 people die and 3,526 are wounded by guns. Guns are the leading cause of death among children and teens in Ohio with an average of 177 every year.

In response to the ever-present gun violence in Ohio and in the greater Cleveland area, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary joined with other Cleveland religious congregations to sponsor a billboard message to end gun violence. The billboard message went up on June 10 and will remain until July 7.

The complete message of the billboard is:

Put the Guns Down

Nobody is Winning

Let Peace Begin With ME

Sponsored by Area Catholic Sisters
